A first pass of the results has been completed and posted. Please note I am aware there are omissions (Robin, you’ve disappeared!) and some incomplete split times but I have posted the best I can at this stage. Full results with more splits and possibly some missing data filled in will be posted some time on Thursday. The real world is interfering again I must confess. JT.

More photos up under the photo link (thanks Ian and more recently Sal), race report to be posted Monday. Sausage sizzle post-KillaFergus is confirmed; no ’short coursing’ is also confirmed as we’ve amended the course to have fewer compulsory controls and more optional ones worth a time bonus. Start time will be 9am sharp.

Entries are trickling in steadily, please spread the word to your friends. Did I say mention there will be no short-coursing? Yes, but at the final orienteering course we reserve the right to offer a truncated version of the last 4km orienteering course. More electronic punching this event too, only two manual punchcards.

Gee, World Cup is over soon, what else will we turn to on late night TV now?

If anyone knows someone who can assist as a marshall for KillaFergus it’d be much appreciated, only one ‘remote’ location, the other spots are, shall we say, well provisioned! Please contact us if you know someone who can assist at a TA for a while. John’s broken rib and wrist probably won’t have healed by then either…

KillaMunda results are posted, visit the link in the left pane. Great to see so few people incur any gear penalties this time around -well done to all! A race report and photographs are also underway, maybe by end of week I’m afraid as the world of employment is encroaching on AR fun time.

For KillaFergus we have decided to print most of the maps on waterproof paper. This greatly improves the event for competitors but also significantly increases the map printing costs – consequently we regretfully have increased the entry fee for KillaFergus by $10. We still believe that the event represents top-level quality in Adventure Racing and our tip is that it is more scenic and potentially more enjoyable than Killamunda, if that were possible!

Pre-race information has been emailed to all participants. Several email addresses provided failed, so, if you have not got the pre-race information please contact us via a functioning email address and we will send it to you by reply email.

For those wanting to find out more about the weekend’s field, here is an article written by local AR specialist Jen Graham-Taylor.

Please check the following Entry list to ensure your details are correct, or even there!!

    Entry List

    9/6/2010
Entries have now officially closed for the Killamunda Challenge. We have 80 competitors lining up for the 2010 Killamunda Challenge. An entry list can be found here .  Dont forget the ‘Competitor Info Night’ this thursday evening at Paddy Pallin for those who want a few tips before the race.

    5/6/2010
A pair has become a single, if you’re looking for a partner please contact us.
A female pair are looking to borrow MTBs for the event, again, if you can assist contact us.

    31/05/2010
The number of participants has now hit 80 with 28 solos and the rest in pairs – fantastic! Entrants have been provided details of an information and discount night at the Paddy Pallin store in Perth. For more information… enter! Note that as of midnight tonight there is a $20 surcharge upon entries for an individual or a pair. There is a maximum limit of entries and consequently a final cut-off time when the ability to enter will be removed from the website temporarily.

With quite a few newcomers trying out the Killamunda Challenge we thought it a good idea to post a copy of a sample legend so that competitors could become familiar with some of the symbols that may be found on the maps that are distributed throughout the race. Legend_preview

Competitors will be pleased to know that most of the maps for both events are completed now after a couple more site visits to the event venues. Don’t forget the first entry deadline for Killamunda is approaching, May 31st – entries have been coming in more steadily over the last fortnight and we’re on track to surpass last year’s numbers.

    28/04/2010
This Sunday 2nd May is an opportunity to practise and learn some necessary MTB navigation skills on a map that uses exactly the same symbols and scale as Killa participants will recieve for some of their legs. Orienteering Western Australia is holding its first MTB Orienteering event for the season at nearby Carinyah, next to Karagullen around a 40min drive from Perth. Follow the link to read their News page and find further details. A great chance for some tips from some regular MTBOers and mapboards can be hired if you contact the MTBO Convenor to pre-arrange one, or simply rock up nice and early to the event!

    20/04/2010
Registrations for Killamunda Challenge close May 31st. Entries after this date will be accepted at the discretion of the Race Directors and will incur a $20 late fee. Closing date for KillaFergus is June 30th.

Refunds will be available at 50% up to the closing date for each race. After that no refund will be available.

With perfect weather on Sunday we’ve pretty much finalised the KillaFergus course and timed each section to make sure we can get the expected winning time close to what it should be. There are some great views, lots of friendly singletrack, a mix of farmland and forest and surprisingly few big hills given the topography. The only section we still need to work on is the orienteering section to finish with. This will take some planning time to ensure we can set a course which will be doable by everyone regardless of navigation ability and yet provide a chance for the navigator types to show their ability compared to the rest of the course. The orienteering will be on grazed farmland with good visibility…

Drive time from Perth GPO to event assembly area – 1hr 50mins. Beers at Wild Bull – very nice!

    12/03/2010
The number of event sponsors is increasing – and this means an increasing number of prizes and giveaways at the post-race presentations. I’d like to make mention of those on board thus far:

  • Paddy Pallin
  • Shotz Sports Nutrition
  • Crumpler
  • Evedon Park Bush Resort
  • Wild Bull Brewery
  • Wovenfield Wines
  • Further information about these supporters of your races can be found by clicking on their logos to visit their respective websites.

    01/03/2010
Entry is open for the Killamunda Challenge and the KillaFergus event. Each event requires a separate online form and online payment to be completed.

Entry fees for both events are the same:

  • Solo $40
  • Pairs $60
  • Orienteering Western Australia members are entitled to a $10 discount.

Entry Forms are located on both event information pages.

We look forward to having you as part of two successful events – we’ve been checking out prospective routes for both courses and are really wishing we had the sort of cooler weather that will be around for the races themselves. Near 40 degrees just seems to encourage the March flies! KillaFergus is looking the flatter of the two events although there will be some contours to cross in both events as they are both in particularly scenic areas – beautiful Jarrah forest and rolling farmland for KillaFergus with traditional pea-gravel for Killamunda Challenge.

We’re minimising the nastiness and won’t include steep hills just for the sake of it, we promise, and we’re definitley going to have an ‘A’ and a ‘B’ option for the concluding orienteering course to keep the field closer together at the finish.
